BOKO HARAM MASSING IN GWOZA, PREPARING FOR MASSIVE SHOWDOWN WITH NIGERIAN TROOPS
Current security reports indicate that members of
the terror sect Boko Haram, are currently massing in Gwoza for a huge showdown
with the Multi-national Joint Task Force as they desperately seek to hold on to
their beloved "caliphate".
Owing
to the several bombardments of their hitherto strongholds of Baga, Monguno and
others, the terrorists who have suffered heavy casualties, and extensive loss of equipment, have been forced
to flee and have now converged on Gwoza,
Borno State where they prepare to confront the troops in a massive confrontation. It seems that now,
the terrorists, under the command of Shekau 3,
are prepared not to surrender but to fight to the last breath. A
commendable act, no doubt but one which is going to be futile for many reasons.
First,
they are effectively encircled all around as they Nigerian troops advance from
one axis, while the allied forces have successfully reclaimed all the surrounding
border towns. This makes it very difficult for them to escape when eventually the battle is out of their
hands.
Second, the Nigerian special forces are equipped with advanced combat gear and weapons
and as such have the advantage over both daytime and nighttime warfare. The
possession of the T-72 Battle Armoured Tank for instance ensures that, from at
least 2km away, the enemy can be engaged effectively without breaking a sweat.
Third,
the Nigerian forces have the much dreaded MRAP APCs which are
"All-terrain" vehicles and as such the hilly and rugged nature of
Gwoza would present little challenge for them. The vehicles in the same
counter-insurgency war have taken significant hits from RPGS and AA
(Anti-Aircraft) gun fire, but have barely looked like coming apart. In-fact,
the vehicles are so devastating that nothing in the arsenal of the terrorists
has been proven to penetrate the extensive and well-articulated body armour of
same!
According to reports credited to BBC Hausa, the terrorists have asked women and children to leave due to their plan to engage the military in a massive confrontation, one of the fleeing woman said in an interview with BBC Hausa.
In
her words, “On the day they entered, they told women and children to exit
the town because they wanted to confront the military, (then ) the women and children
went out of the town. Somebody carried us into the bush, but the vigilante
stopped us, asking us where we were coming from. We explained to them that we
were from Gwoza and narrated to them what happened.
“They
(Boko Haram) met the old people reciting Holy Qur’an in front of a cleric’s
house. They told the cleric that the study in front of that house had come to
an end and ordered them to follow them to where they would further their
studies eternally.
“Soon after the Asr prayer they tied the aged people and
began to pick guns, telling them that ‘you are in our hands today, your end has
come.’ They took them to a new abattoir nearby and killed them,”
Confirming
the development, Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial
District decried how the old people were killed even when they were found
reciting the Holy Qur’an.
According
to a local who fled Gwoza, the terrorists surrounded the young men who
studied the Koran in front of the residence of a local religious leader. These
men were then executed in front of their wives.
Gwoza, it would be recalled, was taken by insurgents in June 2014, after which the deranged sect leader Abubakar
Shekau declared that he had established an Islamic Caliphate, centered there.
A
recapture of the city would therefore be
a highly symbolic success for the Nigerian army as the locality serves as the
epicenter of the Boko Haram empire. From all indications, the hard-line
fighters of the group, having failed to halt the Monstrous and Brutal advances
of the Nigerian Army and its allies at Dikwa, Baga, Monguno, Sambisa and other
locales have now heavily fortified the town and are somewhat ready for the
mother of all battles.
The
end indeed is near!
