In recent times, Boko Haram has continued to suffer catastrophic defeats at the hands of the Nigerian Army and its allies in the ongoing campaign to end an over 6-year terror reign in West Africa. The latest round of defeats for the terrorist sect occurred recently when members of the two major factions of the group massacred each other senselessly in a leadership tussle somewhere in Borno state, allowing some disillusioned members to sneak off in the darkness and surrender to troops of the Nigerian military. http://lieutenantdante.blogspot.com.ng/2016/09/boko-haram-terrorists-surrender.html

Surely, Boko Haram's days are clearly numbered in Northeast Nigeria. Unable to launch grand-scale assaults on security agents and civilians alike, the terrorists have resorted to cowardly, night-time hit and run attacks against isolated villages and military units scattered all over the North-East.

 

Much of the group remains holed up in clusters in the vast Sambisa, unable to access territory as they once did. The cowardly Damsaka aka "Abubakar -ash-Shekawi", after sneaking off into thin air at the battle of Gwoza -

http://lieutenantdante.blogspot.com.ng/2015/03/shekaus-last-stand-poor-isa-hides.html returned from exile not too long ago, making a lot of noise in futile efforts to keep his stranglehold on the group after ISIS announced Musab Al-Barnarwi as the new leader of Boko Haram.

 

Unfortunately for him, he was met with finite death at the hands of the Nigerian Airforce in a precision airstrike on one of his bases in Sambisa. Abubakar Shekau was fatally injured on the right shoulder, and later died from his wounds, as confirmed by the spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman. It however remains to be see whether Ash Shekawi will resurrect from this particular death! 

Boko Haram has run low on food, ammunition, water and other basic commodities required for day-to-day survival. Many of its fighters have surrendered to the forces of the Nigeria, decrying the state of their Sambisa camps and the hopelessness of forging ahead with a pointless agenda.

Although an all-encompassing knowledge of the vast northeast desert terrain gives Boko Haram a sort of advantage in effecting its hit and run operations for maximum effect, as attested by some military sources in the theatre, the sect faces an uncertain future as many of its fighters have grown weary of combat and now flee from Nigerian soldiers who have pursued them relentlessly. Banarwi and his loyalists have tried to strike a soft chord with muslims by stating that, unlike Shekau, their own campaign will not target muslims and their places of worship. This, they hope will probably create a positive perception in the minds of people towards their “Boko Haram 2.0 version” One however wonders whether Barnarwi and his band of not-so-merry Boko Haram jihadists are willing to go the distance on empty stomachs! Only time will tell…The Choppers circle above!!!
