Ok, so like imagine yourself in a
vehicle, driving through a deserted road, bushes on both sides of the road.
It's getting dark and you can barely see up to 100 meters ahead of you. And
then suddenly, a volley of bullets fly out from all angles on both sides of the
road at such frightening pace that you have no time to adjust yourself or make
any defensive manouvres. You're lucky enough to avoid being hit by the rounds,
possibly from small arms like the AK47, and then just as you make to jump out
of the vehicle, a whiff of smoke ignites off another point just ahead of you.
In a split second, you realize a Rocket Propelled Grenade has just been
released at you! And then...explosions all around...
You ears are temporarily blocked
just as you experience a dizzying sensation...And then, you finally drift off...into
the white light...peacefully!
Guys, the scenario I just painted is
a real-time experience of many of our troops currently operating in the North-East.
Time and again, this country has lost gallant sons to the tact of the enemy in employing
deadly ambushes to cut down our boys, who often than not were helpless as a
result of riding in soft-skinned vehicles like the Toyota Hilux, and as such
could really offer no form of resistance to the enemy.
For months, the Nigerian Army battled
bravely and courageously to fight off the harbingers of evil who sought to
violate our territorial integrity while also declaring a so-called caliphate
and even releasing video after video of prominent occupation of our territory.
The society burned. Many analysed,
"Nigerian soldiers are cowards. They turn their backs and flee the
battle" "How come they fought in Liberia and Sudan, yet they cannot
fight in North-East, they cannot fight Boko Haram?"
For months, the Nigerian Army
remained the butt of jokes in the media, both local and international, and even
among its own people, was branded as a characterless band of merry men, whose
sole purpose in life was to grow big, round pot-bellies and do
"Owambe" with curvaceous, bosom-full girls every night! They abused
our generals, even when these were men who would gladly lay down their lives
just so as to ensure our beloved Nigeria remained Nigeria.
Even the cowardly Shekau aka
"Isa Damsaka" joined in on the act. He would appear in videos, donning
combat fatigues, firing an assault rifle, or anti-aircraft gun (even when on
many occasions he lost control of these weapons, firing without a single
posture of marksmanship) and then hurling threats at our president and our
beloved military. Sometimes he would laugh hysterically, displaying machismo
and talking tough, saying this and saying that.
For me, I knew deep down (and still
do) that Abubakar Shekau was, and still is a coward. If he were not, why would
he run from Dikwa when faced with the certainty of death at the hands of the
Chadians and abandon his men, even when severally he has accused our die-hard
soldiers of cowering at the mere mention of his name and fleeing even before he
gets to them? (Even though we know the late impostor Bashir Mohammed was the
more combatant of the two...and even he later met his waterloo at Konduga!)
Anyway he still has a chance to
redeem his image. He has fled to deploy his fiercest fighters who have massed at Gwoza, ready for the mother of
battles. My only challenge to him is, please Mr Shekau: don't run away again!
stand and fight. stand and face death in
the form of our brand new T-72 Battle-Armoured Tanks, our Armoured BTR- infantry
fighting vehicles and our ALL-mighty Bigfoot MRAPS that make your
well-advertized AA (Anti-Aircraft) guns that you so much love and cherish that
you have to bring them to every video,
look like dane guns!
Anyway, lemme get back to the main
point of this write-up:
As you have all heard, seen and
read. The tide is changing in this war, forget what CNN is saying. The
insurgents are all over the place, scampering for safety and executing
diversionary tactics, (blowing up markets here, and parks there, slitting
throats here, and cutting off heads there) as their beloved caliphate is being
destroyed right before their very eyes.
As it stands, the Nigerian Army is
closing in on securing the North-East as the operational capacity of the Army
has been doubled, if not tripled in the form of modern weapons, advanced heavy
weaponry, renewed cooperation among neighboring countries, and last but not
least, dare-devil officers and men, whose morale at this time reaches up to the
highest heavens, having taken charge of the new guns and ...well...bigger guns!
Today, the Nigerian Army charges through
the Mandara plains, the straits of Baga, Monguno, Marte, Gamboru-Ngala, Chibok and the
likes, in a mammoth convoy of heavy-armoured vehicles, with the heavier T-72
and MRAPs leading the way. ( As a matter-of-fact, more are still on the way!) Lest
I forget, the skies are equally lined with our newly acquired advanced helos
and jets that demonstrate pin-point accuracy (just as you all saw on Channels
news recently!) in devastating the enclaves of the Boko Haram. Town after Town
is being liberated as the insurgents are sent to met their promised virgins
rather untimely in the afterlife!
Well for those who find it difficult
to believe that we are winning the war...find the faith to...
I know I do...
