Continuing on its sustained tempo of
totally decimating Boko Haram from existence on Sovereign Nigerian territory,
the Nigerian Army and Airforce have successfully rescued more juveniles from
the dreaded Sambisa forest, even as more terrorist camps have been destroyed
while more commanders and foot soldiers of the
sect have been killed.
A press statement recently
released by Major-General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information at
Nigeria’s Defense Headquarter, Abuja, disclosed that soldiers “have commenced
operations deep into the Sambisa forest after sustained aerial bombardments by
the Nigerian Air Force.” The statement revealed that the main objective was “to
decimate and clear the terrorists from the forest which is their last bastion.”
Recent successes have come despite the cowardly tactics of
the Shekau-led terrorists to lay land mines across the length and breadth of
the forest in a hopeless bid to halt the behemoth advance of Nigerian troops
into the once-dreaded forest.
The terrorists have run short of ammunition and heavy
equipment and as such, have resorted to mining the routes leading into their
stronghold in a bid to deter the advancing Nigerian troops. The sect have
equally deployed their available heavy resources at the heart of the forest
stronghold where their training camps lie.
“Over 13 terrorists camps, including the notorious
Tokumbere camp in Sambisa forest, have been captured. Other camps overran and
destroyed by troops, backed by the relentless and aggressive air bombardments
of the Nigerian Airforce, include Wulari Bukar, Gangala, Anguwar Bakwai,
Jigide, Kotorima, Lagura Bello, Lagina Fulani,”
As it stands, an additional number of at least 160 children
have been rescued to complement the earlier number of 200 girls and 93 women
rescued days ago.
, Nigerian
troops destroyed some armored personnel carriers, Buffalo vehicles mounted
with anti-aircraft guns, a truck and several Hilux vehicles.
Nigerian troops have also so far captured some
anti-aircraft guns, general-purpose machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades
(RPG) and AK 47 rifles from the fleeing insurgents.
