The Nigerian Army
has announced the re-opening of all major highways linking Maiduguri, Borno,
with other parts of the country after being closed for about three years due to
attacks by the extremist group, Boko Haram.
The Chief of Army,
Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, made the disclosure at the launch of Army
Combat Motor Bikes Battalion in Damboa, headquarters of Damboa local government
area of the state.

while inducting the unit stated that the essence of the battalion was to open
and secure motorways from various towns to and from Maiduguri, and other parts of
Yobe State

said the army would work towards securing the lives and properties of motorists
plying the roads. In his words, “From today the road –Maiduguri-Damboa and
Damboa-Biu highway will be opened.
“The road is going
to be entrusted into the hands of the Brigade Commander of the 25 Task Force
Brigade,”. Speaking further, he added, “I do not want to hear any case of
attack on innocent civilians or motorists on the road henceforth.“Our troops
will be on alert 24 hours to ensure that the road is kept open.”
Prior to the
induction and launching ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff took time off to see
and address troops located at Delwa and Bulabulin before arriving Damboa. On
arrival, he inspected a Quarter guard at the Brigade’s headquarters.
Thereafter, he was briefed by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Lawrence Adeleke Araba who then showed him some weapons, vehicles and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) making machines and equipment the formation recovered when they cleared Boko Haram terrorists camps at Talala and Ajingin recently.

Earlier, the
Commander, 7 Division Garrison, Colonel Solomon Babatunde Kumapayi also showed
the COAS vehicles, weapons and Improvised Explosives Making Devices (IEDs) his
formation recovered from the terrorists at Kotokuma on Friday.
The event also witnessed the launching of the second set of 100 wanted suspected Boko Haram terrorists by the Nigerian Army
