It is nolonger news
thatr Pilot Officer Tolulope Arotile emerged the best graduating Airforce cadet
from the Nigerian Defence Academy recently.
What however is still
reverberating across the length and breadth of the federation is the fact that
she did it! A female cadet, against all odds, over the course of 5 years in the
rigorous, mentally tasking and physically demanding school that is
the NDA! Yes, the NDA!
As the narrative goes,
Pilot Officer T. Arotile, a member of the Regular Combatant Course 62 of the
Nigerian Defence Academy, emerged as the best graduating officer cadet from the
Nigerian Airforce having excelled well and above her peers in all areas of
cadet training which spanned a period of 5 years.
What many may not
understand is this feat is truly amazing and unique as Tolulope being a female
was able to adapt to the rigours of cadet military training which has over the
years seen quite a number of cadets desert the training facility due to a wide
range of reasons such as expulsion, medical unfitness, sheer lack of will and
determination to succeed, amongst others
Social Media has been
agog since the news broke and even her excited mother was not left out as she took
to her Facebook page to celebrate her and thank those who joined the family in
celebrating Tolulope who applied to the NDA in 2011 upon graduation from the
Nigerian Airforce Secondary school, Ikeja, Lagos that same year.
She wrote: “On behalf
of my entire family. Engr Akin and Mrs Arotile l will like to sincerely
appreciate every 1 for honouring the invitation to celebrate with PILOT OFFICER
T.AROTILE .I am indeed grateful and pray that God will reward you all
exceedingly and abundantly above all you wld think or ask of Him. Once
again,thank u and God bless.”
Kudos to the young female officer who has shown that the adage “what a man can do, a woman can do better” has once come through in favour of the women. Indeed Tolulope’s story will inspire and motivate millions of Nigerian females across the length and breadth of the nation to aspire and achieve great and spectacular things. That being a young woman gors well beyond Snapchat and snaps, instagram and instgram stories, slaying leftand right etc- Not that there is anything wrong with that oooo! Abeg before una go come finish me and my small-time blog!

On a final note, I
daresay that women are stronger, fitter and better equipped than men to take up challenging
responsibilities across various strata of society.
