Border closure: Zamfara Police impounds 20 vehicles

Following the recent order given by Zamfara state government on total closure of its borders, the state police command has intercepted 20 commercial vehicles conveying goods from Kano along mada bush in Gusau local government on their way to Sokoto and Kebbi states.

This was made known by the state commissioner of police Usman Nagoggo while fielding questions from journalists, when he visited the border to ascertain the level of compliance among travelers Friday.

According to him, the vehicles were apprehended after receiving an intelligence that vehicles diverted from the main road through mada forest in order to escape to Sokoto and Kebbi states.
He said all the vehicles were packed at Yankara main border, saying that the drivers and some passengers will be tested and their luggage will be fumigated.

“We apprehended these vehicles conveying different goods not because of stopping their businesses but what the state government is after is health of its people and we must assist the state government to ensure palliative measures have put in place in order not allow the spread of the corona virus disease into the state,” he said.

Zamfara state Governor Bello Mohammed had Thursday extended border closure for another two weeks and established mobile courts for prosecution of offenders
