Military eliminate 30 bandits in Zamfara, recover 10 rifles; lose 4 soldiers in the encounter

 
 
 
No fewer than thirty bandits and four soldiers are reported to have died during a bloody encounter between the Military and armed bandits on Monday in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a source in the area who pleaded for anonymity, the incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Monday.

The source further said  the soldiers were taken unawares by the bandits in the bushes between Birane and Garin-Kada villages of Zurmi local government area.

He said the troop were conveying food supplies to their colleagues on guard in the the bushes when the ambush attack occurred.

“The bandits who took advantage of their good knowledge of the bushes, waited for the unsuspecting troops and immediately they approached their hideout, the bandits opened fire on the soldiers during which four soldiers were killed instantly,” he said. 
 However, the soldiers fought their way through the ambush and successfully killed nothing less than 30 of the criminals, wounding many other who fled with gunshot wounds. "The troops also successfully recovered about 10 AK-47 rifles from the fleeing criminals"
